So many have asked me “How can I join a tennis team?”, “I’d like to play board games with others. How do I find like minded folk?”. Meetup was a great source for that but I have found it went rather commercial recently and many who post just want to sell you something. So I thought I’d post some groups here you can join. Most of these are a hybrid of “drop in” and “membership”. 

Bay Area Adventure Gals (Misc) Join one of their groups activities or initiate one and have a group join you.

Menlo Park Chorus (Music) a community choral organization, sponsored by the City of Menlo Park. The chorus rehearses and performs a wide variety of music. They focus on the sheer enjoyment of singing. No prior singing experience necessary.

Movie Discussion Group (Movies) This is an monthly online discussion group loosely organized by the Menlo Park library. Contact Bruce England bkengland@gmail.com to join.

San Francisco Orchid Society (Garden)

Canopy (Garden) this organization’s mission is to grow urban tree canopy in Midpeninsula communities for the benefit of all. You can volunteer with them. Or go on one of their tree walks, plant a tree or join their other events.

Peninsula Astronomical Society (Science) frequently hosts astronomy talks and events, and also runs the public Friday night and Saturday morning observing programs at Foothill Observatory on the Foothill College campus in Los Altos, California.

Swing Dancing (Dance) Wednesday Night Hop (Dance) Join the swing dance party in downtown Palo Alto. Come for a lesson or just for the fun. For those a bit apprehensive about joining they offer a “Tasters” class for newbies.

Folk Dancing (Dance)

Movie Discussion Group (Movies). This online movies are free via Kanaopy a la the Menlo Park and Palo Alto libraries. It’s free to join this group which meets once a month. Contact bkengland@gmail.com to join.
