Take a drive along the coast and the nearby hills to visit these special places.

Lomar Mar Store and Kitchen (Loma Mar, Unique Shopping and Food) On the road to Pescadero this unique place is historic and unique. They offer offer food, groceries, supplies and live music with small-town hospitality. Established in 1930, the Loma Mar Store has gone through several transformations and stewards over the years. 

Duarte’s Tavern (Food) Best known for their cream of artichoke soup and alallieberry pie, this bar/restaurant has quite a history. Frank Duarte established the business as a saloon and barbershop in 1894. The tavern soon offered food for locals and weekenders too. All the Duartes have loved food. Emma Duarte began the tavern’s pie-making tradition in the 1930s. Frank’s grandson Ron Duarte and his wife Lynn first experimented with their famous Cream of Artichoke soup in the early 1960s. Ron’s ahandwritten book of recipes is in the kitchen today.

Arcanjeli Store (Food, Unique Shopping) This is worth a stop to pick up their famous artichoke bread for a picnic.

Harley’s Goat Cheese and Farm (Food) Stop here to pet the goats, join a tour and purchase their amazing goat cheese made on site. Don’t miss their cheese topped with edible flowers. 

Memorial Park (Outdoors and Camping) This park has wonderful hikes and camping spots. Timber surrounding this area was logged in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, both for redwood lumber and the bark of the tan oak tree. In fact, four small sawmill sites are either on or adjacent to the present park boundaries. Fortunately, many of the areas in the park were saved from the logger’s saws and were eventually acquired by the County in 1924. The park was memorialized for for the men of San Mateo County who died in the First World War.

Ano Nuevo (Outdoors, Animals) Elephant seals were almost hunted to extinction but they are back. See them at Ano Nuevo in Pescadero and join a guided walk December through March when the preserve is the most populated during the breeding season.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse (Misc) This is currently under construction but when it opens, stay at the hostel. The high point of it is the jacuzzi. overlooking the waves. It is also worth a look to see the maritime historic treasures in the interpretive center.
