Stanford Places to Go

Stanford University is a gem on the Peninsula and not just for students. Here are some wonderful places to go on campus.

Cantor and Anderson Art Collection (Art, History) Cantor holds the second largest collection of Rodin sculptures. It’s also a great place for a stroll through Stanford history and the golden spike which heralded the cross continent railroad and Stanford’s fortune. Next door is the Anderson Art collection, a very large collections of post WWII. Entrance is FREE. Cantor and Anderson tours are held several times a week.

Stanford Cactus Garden (Garden) The garden, also known as the Arizona Garden, was designed for Jane and Leland Stanford by landscape architect Rudolf Ulrich between 1881 and 1883.

Mausoleum (History) The remains of Jane, Leland and Leland Junior Stanford lie here.

The Dish (Outdoors) Aptly named after the satellite dish on the property, this is best known to locals for it’s paced hiking trail. It’s best to carpool as parking is limited.

Hoover Tower (Misc) Take the elevator up to the top for some great views. A fun fact is that this tower used to have a ball on top but lightning struck it off a few decades ago.

Memorial Church (Misc) Take a tour of the Stanford church, come to a musical performance or lecture, attend a religious service or just marvel at this historical church, a reconstruction of one in Italy.

Hanna House (Misc) This Frank Lloyd Wright house will reopen for public tours in 2024.
